Some families leave a mark on institutions. Others produce leaders who go on to shape a nation. The Olumide family has done both.
The journey began with two pioneers in higher education. Their late father, Professor Olufolabi Olumide, became the first substantive Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), helping lay the foundation for one of Nigeria’s foremost universities. Their mother, Mrs. Clara Folasade Abiodun Olumide, broke barriers as the first female Registrar of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), opening doors for women in university administration.
Today, their daughters have written remarkable chapters of their own; not by living in the shadow of that legacy, but by building legacies that stand independently.
Dr. Jumoke Oduwole has distinguished herself as a renowned business and public policy expert. Through academia, research, and public service, she has consistently championed policies that strengthen Nigeria’s economy. Today, as Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, she is driving initiatives that promote industrial growth, attract investment, deepen trade, and position Nigeria more competitively in the global economy.
Her sister, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, FCIArb, has earned national respect through an outstanding legal career defined by excellence, integrity, and leadership. Her election as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association; becoming only the second woman in history to hold the office; places her at the helm of one of Nigeria’s most influential professional bodies, where she now helps shape the future of the legal profession and strengthens the rule of law.
Together, these sisters represent the very best of Nigerian excellence. One is influencing economic policy and national development. The other is leading the legal profession and safeguarding the principles of justice. Different paths, different professions, yet united by competence, service, and an unwavering commitment to nation-building.
