Nigeria’s Super Eagles didn’t qualify for the just-concluded 2026 World Cup in the United States, but Nigeria was still represented on the global stage.
An estimated 1.5 to 1.8 billion people worldwide watched the inaugural FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show. Burna Boy performed alongside Shakira and Uganda’s Ghetto Kids in the 11-minute spectacle.
The show, produced by Global Citizen and curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, took place at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey in front of a sold-out crowd of over 82,500 fans. It was staged mid-game during the final between Spain and Argentina.
With that performance, Burna Boy made history as the first African artist to headline a FIFA World Cup Final halftime show to a live global audience of this scale.
