Today’s match against Benin Republic is a do-or-die moment for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their quest for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification. The team needs to win and hope South Africa doesn’t beat Rwanda to secure a spot. A 2-0 win over Benin Republic would put Nigeria in contention, but they’ll still need Rwanda to spoil South Africa’s party. Let’s look at the possible scenarios :
- Nigeria wins and South Africa loses or draws: Nigeria qualifies for the World Cup
- Nigeria wins by 2-0 and South Africa wins: Nigeria and Benin Republic will be tied on 17 points, but Nigeria’s superior goal difference might just be enough to secure the top spot
- Nigeria wins by 1 goal or less: Not enough to guarantee qualification, Nigeria’s fate will depend on other results
The match kicks off today at 5 pm BST at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The Super Eagles will be counting on their fans and their star players, including Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon, to deliver a winning performance. If Nigeria fails to qualify directly, they’ll have a second chance through the playoffs, but for now, it’s all about securing a win against Benin Republic .
