A tragic lone accident on the University of Ilorin campus on Thursday resulted in one fatality and nine injuries.
The accident involved a ten-seater commercial bus transporting passengers from the campus to the town after the day’s work. According to a statement from the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, the bus was carrying ten passengers when the accident occurred.
The university’s management expressed their sadness over the incident and stated that rescue operations began immediately. All victims were taken to the University Health Centre, where they received medical attention.
One person died, and five others sustained serious injuries. Four others had minor injuries, received treatment, and were discharged. One individual required advanced treatment and was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital after being stabilized.
The deceased’s body has been moved to the morgue, and efforts are underway to contact the next of kin. The university management extended their condolences to the deceased’s family and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
