Nigerian Tanker Drivers’ Strike Begins
There are signs that the NARTO leadership and key players in the oil and gas sector are scheduled to convene with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu for a crucial meeting today, aiming to prevent an impending fuel shortage.
NARTO members had issued a nationwide shutdown threat starting Monday due to the steep cost of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), essential for powering their trucks in the transportation of petroleum products across Nigeria.
Similar to the surge in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, which now exceeds N600 per litre, the cost of diesel has recently surged, primarily attributed to the foreign exchange crisis in the country. Presently, diesel is being sold at a rate exceeding N1,250 per litre in Nigeria.
