Major rocks in Nigeria and their locations
(1) Olumo Rock.
Olumo Rock, Nigeria’s largest and most popular rock, is located near Ogun River in Ogun State. With a 449-meter wide peak and 137-meter highest peak, it attracts locals and tourists for stunning views.
(2). Zuma Rock.
Nigeria’s major rocks, including Zuma Rock, are popular among locals and foreigners. The rock and its location are on 100 Naira banknotes. Visitors can visit the 725-meter tall mountain from Abuja also known as the “Gateway to Abuja from Suleja.”
(3). Aso Rock.
Aso Rock, located in Abuja city, is a 400-meter high, ten times higher than most pyramids in Egypt, resembling a pyramid. Known for its historical connection to the Asokoro tribe, it is visible from the Complex of the President or Supreme Court.
(4) Riyom Rock.
In Plateau State, not far from Riyom town, sits Riyom Rock. It’s a wonderful and rather unique Nigerian tourist destination. The reason the locals refer to it as “Three Rocks” is that the enormous rocks stack on top of one another to create a distinctive shape at the top. Hiking and photography are both highly recommended at Riyom Rock.
(5). Wase Rock.
One of only five isolated and rare dome-shaped rock hills in the world is the well-known Wase Rock. It comes from a volcano and serves as a pelican breeding ground. Approximately 321 hectares surrounding this Rock have been designated by the government as a wildlife conservation area. This area is used by the locals to graze their animals. The Rock is situated in Wase town in Plateau State and rises to a height of about 350 meters (more than 1.1 thousand feet) above sea level.
(6). Udi Hills
Any time of year is a good time to visit the Udim, Ugwueme, or Udi hills in Enugu State, North LGA, Nigeria. These hills has a height above sea level of hundreds of meters. It was here that Nigeria mined its first coal in 1915. You will enjoy exploring the caverns and connected tunnels that form chambers that are roughly ten meters wide in the hills. This location’s stunning landscapes are ideal for hiking and bird watching.
(7). Kazaure Hills.
In addition to relaxing on stunning oversized rocks at Jigawa State’s Kazaure Hills, you can explore the Emir’s palace Dutse and the neighboring Wawan Rafi Lake. To make the visitation experience enjoyable, the palace underwent extensive renovations. Jigawa State’s Kazaure Town is both a Local Government Area and an Emirate. The old Kazaure emirate is the reason it has existed since 1819. The town has a long history with the Hausa, Dan Tunku, and the Fulani people.
(8). Gibadi Rock.
A notable landmark in the northern Nigerian state of Sokoto is Gibadi Rock. Although it is not as well-known as the other rocks, it is still a great spot to go with friends, family, and coworkers. For an enjoyable weekend, bring your hiking gear.
(9).Shere Hills.
The Shere Hills are a collection of hills and rock formations located on the Jos Plateau. The hills rise to a height of roughly 1,829 meters and 600 feet above sea level. They are located in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, roughly 10 kilometers east of the city of Jos. Scouts from all over Africa came to Shere Hills in 1976 for the First All African Scouts Jamboree.
(10). Kufena Hills.
Kaduna State’s Kufena Hills are known for their rough terrain and striking landforms. They are home to a varied ecosystem of plant and animal species and are located about 825 meters above sea level. On July 17, 1956, Kufena Hills was designated as a national monument by the government. It is one of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s four officially recognized and safeguarded national monuments.
