Lagos State to mandate fire fighting equipment in Lagos

In alignment with the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2019 as amended, the Lagos State Government is gearing up to enforce the provision of fire fighting devices in buildings.

Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, announced this development in Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Expressing the urgency of this enforcement, Olumide emphasized the need to avert fire disasters, citing the recent fire outbreak at Mandilas building, Broad Street, Lagos Island, as a compelling reason for residents to embrace and comply with Physical Planning Laws.

Highlighting the significance of fire safety measures, Olumide stated, “The requirement for the provision of fire safety devices in buildings is as crucial as maintaining the right setbacks and airspaces.

These regulations are in place for our collective benefit, ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.”

He urged property owners and developers to diligently adhere to the stipulations of Physical Planning Laws, cautioning that non-compliance could result in the sealing of their properties.
