Google, Microsoft and Tiktok Blocked Millions of Accounts in Nigeria

The Nigerian government has announced that major tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and TikTok have removed over 13 million accounts in the country as part of their efforts to keep the internet safe.

According to a report, these companies received over 750,000 complaints from users in 2024, which led to the removal of nearly 59 million pieces of content that were deemed harmful. The companies also reinstated over 400,000 pieces of content after users appealed their removal.

The Nigerian government says this is a big step towards making the internet a safer place for its citizens. The government is working with these tech companies to ensure that they follow rules that protect users from online harm.

The government is also encouraging these companies to continue working with them to keep the internet safe and transparent. This is part of a broader effort to regulate the country’s growing digital economy and protect users from online threats.

By working together, the government and tech companies hope to create a safer and more trustworthy online environment for Nigerians.
