Fuel Scarcity Crisis Claims Life of NULGE Chairman in Nigeria
The severe fuel scarcity in Nigeria has taken a devastating toll, resulting in the tragic death of Oluwatuyi Olasoji, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Akure South Local Government. Olasoji collapsed while waiting in line to buy fuel at a petrol station in Akure, Ondo State, last week.
Despite immediate medical attention, including surgery at the Federal Medical Center in Owo, Olasoji succumbed to his condition on Monday, September 9. His death highlights the dire consequences of the fuel shortage, which has led to prolonged queues, increased transportation costs, and stranded commuters nationwide.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has attributed the crisis to market forces and exchange rate fluctuations, following the deregulation of the petroleum market. However, the company assures that the situation will improve soon.
Nigerians eagerly await the anticipated mid-September commencement of fuel lifting from the Dangote Refinery, expected to bring relief to the crisis. Until then, the nation mourns the loss of Olasoji and hopes for a swift resolution to the fuel scarcity crisis.
