A hyena that had escaped in the central Nigerian city of Jos has been recaptured, according to the local tourism board.
Drones and rangers were deployed to locate the animal after it fled from the Jos Wildlife Park, sparking panic among residents. The tourism board announced that the hyena was “finally found, tranquilized, captured, and returned to its enclosure.”
The circumstances of the hyena’s escape remain unclear, though it was reportedly inside a cage. Despite assurances from wildlife experts about the slim likelihood of an attack, many people in Jos were frightened.
