As I embarked on a mission to collect materials for Nigeria Magazine’s 15th anniversary celebration, I couldn’t help but reflect on the journey that has brought us to this milestone. Esosa had asked our daughter to pick up the materials from someone arriving from Nigeria at the city airport, but I decided to take on the task instead. With the airport’s high parking charges in mind, my wife suggested I park at a DLR station.
A Scenic Drive, as I drove to the airport, I noticed the car mirrors were folded, a sign that my son must have used the car the night before. After adjusting the mirrors, I relied on Google Maps for directions. Although the sat nav took me on a longer route than expected, I enjoyed the scenic drive through the Rotherhithe tunnel, marvelling at the inscription commemorating its opening in 1908.
A Fruitful Encounter, upon arrival at the airport, I confirmed the flight had landed and met Tosin, who was waiting with the materials. We exchanged greetings, and I was impressed by the respectfulness of his older sister, who picked him up from the train station. After collecting the luggage, which included T-shirts, baseball hats, flyers, and promotional materials, I dropped him off and headed back home.
Celebrating a Milestone, as I unpacked the materials, I was thrilled to see the hats, T-shirts, and polo shirts that would help promote Nigeria Magazine’s 15th anniversary celebration. Later, I met with a platform member who had a business stand at Morleys, and we discussed our preparations for the anniversary events. Our conversation took an interesting turn when I shared a story about Tems opening for Coldplay at Wembley, only to discover that Eno, a member of our WhatsApp platform, had actually performed at the same event in 2022 with her band, Ibibio Sound Machine.
A Legacy of Growth and Connection. Nigeria Magazine’s journey since 2010 has been remarkable, growing from a single event to a global platform with over 40 publications, 50 events, and hundreds of speakers. As we celebrate our 15th anniversary, we look forward to an even brighter future, filled with opportunities for connection, growth, and celebration of Nigerian culture.
Congratulations to the Nigeria Magazine team on this milestone achievement!
