Former world boxing champion Anthony Joshua involved in a motor accident in Ogun State, Nigeria. Two passengers died on the spot.

British boxer Anthony Joshua has been injured in a car crash that killed two people in Nigeria, police say.

The former two-time world heavyweight champion, 36, was travelling in the back of a black Lexus when the SUV hit a stationary red commercial truck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

He suffered minor injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment, while two passengers in the vehicle died, according to authorities.

Five adult men were involved in the crash, Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said. Two died, two survived “unhurt”, and Joshua was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Local officials said the two people who died were “male foreign nationals”, according to preliminary reports.

The crash took place on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway at around 12:00 local time (11:00 GMT) on Monday.

The expressway is particularly heavy with traffic at this time of year as many Nigerians living abroad visit for the festive period.
