Nigeria’s Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani has been recognized on TIME’s list of the #TIME100AI of 2025, highlighting the country’s growing influence in shaping the global future of Artificial Intelligence. This achievement reflects the collective efforts of innovators and partners who believe in AI’s potential to transform societies.
Over the past two years, Nigeria has made significant strides in AI development, including the creation of the National AI Strategy (NAIS), which was co-created by over 120 experts of Nigerian descent. The strategy focuses on the responsible use and development of AI.
The country has also implemented research and demonstration initiatives showcasing AI’s potential in critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and financial inclusion. With support from partners like Google and the Gates Foundation, mature AI solutions from Nigerian innovators are being scaled, providing necessary resources, mentorship, and support.
Additionally, Nigeria has launched its AI Collective, a community of proactive AI researchers and practitioners, and established the AI Trust, a body of national leaders supporting ongoing investment in AI. These initiatives aim to ensure Nigeria’s long-term sustainability in AI development.
Dr. Tijani expressed commitment to leveraging AI to drive innovation and contribute to building a $1 trillion economy, as envisioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This recognition from TIME validates Nigeria’s potential to be a global leader in responsible and inclusive AI deployment.
