Transforming Migration Narratives: Insights from the Future of Work Event

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the ‘Future of Work’ event at Imperial College London, expertly hosted by Codub and Vivacity. The conference took a commendable bilateral approach to addressing irregular migration, emphasising the importance of aligning skills with opportunities to make migration a choice rather than a necessity.

Speakers at the event shared valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges associated with migration, offering practical advice on fostering smart partnerships, developing future-ready skills, and creating informed pathways to reshape Nigeria’s migration narrative. A key takeaway was the crucial role governments play in raising awareness and creating an enabling environment to empower individuals to make informed decisions about migration.

The event featured a diverse lineup of speakers, including Chidi Umeano, Principal Consultant at Codub Group; Kemi Ann-Melody Areola, CEO of Vivacity Development; Dr. ILY Maisanda, Chairman of CANUK; Abe Jawando, representing the Minister of Women Affairs; Eniola Badmus, representing the Speaker of the National Assembly; Ms. Ebaide Omiunu, founder of The Ebaidebheki; Angela Egbiremolen, Operation Director & Trainer at Codub; Chukwunonso Ngwu, Academic Researcher in Digital Currencies & AI; and Amb. Sonia Agu.

The discussions were enlightening, and there were many valuable takeaways from the event. The emphasis on transforming migration narratives through informed decision-making and strategic partnerships resonated deeply, highlighting the potential for positive change when skills meet opportunity.
