President Bola Tinubu has officially arrived in the Ikeja area of Lagos State for the inauguration of the Lagos Red Line rail at the early hours of today.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who unveiled the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line Ikeja Overpass in December 2023, pledged that Tinubu would commission the rail before the end of the first quarter of 2024.
The Red Line, once operational, is expected to transport approximately 500,000 passengers daily.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the completion of this safety infrastructure marks a significant step towards the commencement of passenger operations on the Red Line, set to be commissioned by President Tinubu in the first quarter of the upcoming year. Over the past four and a half years, the administration has prioritized the implementation of an integrated transportation system, delivering crucial transport infrastructures to enhance the lives of Lagosians.
The LRMT Red Line rail system, spanning 27 kilometers from Agbado to Oyingbo, includes eight stations at Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and concludes at Oyingbo, with the first phase projected to accommodate over 500,000 daily passengers.
President Tinubu has successfully commissioned the Red Line in Lagos today.
