Oyo Government Invasion: Ibadan Indigens Condemn This Treason

The recent treason by individuals claiming affiliation with the O’odua Nation into the Oyo State Governor’s Office and House of Assembly has sparked vehement condemnation from the leadership and residents of Ibadan. In a unified voice, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), alongside various traditional councils, market leaders, community associations, and elders, expressed profound dismay at the audacious act.

Chief Niyi Ajewole, the President-General of CCII, emphasized the gravity of the situation, calling for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the motives and perpetrators behind the assault. He asserted that anyone found complicit in the attack must face the full force of the law. The invasion, characterized by masked individuals donning army camouflage and brandishing rifles, has deeply unsettled the peace and stability that Ibadan has long enjoyed.

The attempt to seize control of the Governor’s Office and House of Assembly, two pivotal symbols of governance, has been deemed a brazen affront to the sovereignty of the state. Such actions, tantamount to a localized mutiny, evoke concerns of broader destabilization and unrest. The targeted nature of the attack suggests a calculated effort to instill fear and assert dominance over the city.

Amid the chaos and uncertainty that ensued, residents were gripped by apprehension, frantically reaching out to ensure each other’s safety. The disruption of economic activities further underscored the severity of the situation. Even those in the diaspora were not spared from the distress, as they anxiously sought information about the well-being of their loved ones in Ibadan.

Questions lingered about the true intentions of the assailants and their purported affiliation with the O’odua Nation movement. The abruptness and ferocity of the attack caught many off guard, raising suspicions about ulterior motives. While the swift response of security agencies helped restore a semblance of order, the scars left by this brazen incursion will not easily fade.

As Ibadan regains its footing in the aftermath of this traumatic event, the message to would-be agitators is clear: the indomitable spirit of the city will not yield to acts of aggression. Unity, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to peace shall prevail as Ibadan reaffirms its status as a beacon of harmony and progress in the region.
