Nigerian Doctors Threaten Nationwide Strike Over Allowance Dispute

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has threatened to commence a nationwide strike on July 24 if the Federal Government fails to accede to its demands.

The NMA is protesting a circular from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission that revises allowances for medical and dental officers in the federal public service, which the doctors claim contravenes prior agreements.

The association’s president, Prof Bala Audu, stated that the demands are crucial to the survival of Nigeria’s healthcare system and the welfare of medical professionals.

The NMA had issued a 21-day ultimatum to the government, which expires on July 23, and is prepared to take decisive action if its demands are not met.
