If the World Health Organization’s goals are met, Nigeria’s economy could experience a boost equivalent to a quarter of the projected $142.7 billion cumulative output benefit expected by 2030 for malaria-endemic countries, according to a study.
Researchers at Oxford Economics Africa reported that the gross domestic product of Africa’s most populous country could increase by a total of $34 billion over this period. This boost would come from increased productivity and reduced health-related costs. Additionally, Africa would account for 88% of the total benefit across the 85 nations affected by the disease.
