The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved road construction, rehabilitation and public-private partnership projects worth hundreds of billions of naira across several states, alongside concessions for major highway and trailer park facilities.
The approvals are expected to support road infrastructure development, improve connectivity between communities and economic hubs, and strengthen logistics and transportation infrastructure across the country.
Among the approved projects are major road reconstruction and rehabilitation works in Ekiti, Ogun and Rivers states, as well as highway and trailer park concessions in Niger, Lagos and Abia states.
Major Road Construction and Rehabilitation Projects
One of the largest approvals is the N159.83 billion reconstruction of the Ado-Ekiti–Iyin–Aramoko–Itawure–Osun border road in Ekiti State. The project has been awarded to CBC Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Ltd.
The Federal Government also approved a N54.12 billion variation order for the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta–Iboro–Ilaro Road in Ogun State.
In Rivers State, the 15-kilometre Port Harcourt–Eleme Junction–Onne Port Junction section of the East-West Road is set for reconstruction at a cost of N74.51 billion. RCC Nigeria Ltd. will undertake the project, which has a nine-month completion timeline.
Also in Ekiti State, the government approved N54.52 billion for Phase II of the rehabilitation of the Ado-Ekiti–Afe Babalola University Road, which forms part of the Ado–Ijan–Iluomobi–Imesi–Ondo border route.
Meanwhile, the Ilara–Iselu Road, Phases II–V, in Ogun State will receive N94.24 billion for construction. The project was awarded to JRB Construction Company Ltd. and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
Highway and Trailer Park Concessions
Beyond direct road construction, the Federal Government also approved several projects under the public-private partnership model.
The 7.9-kilometre Dikko–Maje section of the Suleja–Minna Road in Niger State will be developed under a 40-year concession valued at N56.75 billion. Graciatech Engineering Nigeria Ltd. will undertake the concession.
The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway has also been approved for operation and maintenance under a 25-year concession valued at N96.43 billion, with the LIB Concession Group named as the concessionaire.
In Abia State, the government approved the development of a greenfield trailer park at Aro-Ngwa at a value of N19.70 billion. Greg Jane International Ltd. will develop and operate the facility under a 50-year concession.
Focus on Transportation Infrastructure
The latest approvals highlight the Federal Government’s continued investment in road infrastructure and the use of public-private partnerships to develop and maintain major transportation assets.
With several of the projects connecting major cities, border routes, ports and commercial corridors, the investments are expected to have implications for the movement of people and goods, particularly along key economic routes.
The trailer park developments could also support the government’s efforts to improve logistics management and provide dedicated facilities for heavy-duty vehicles along major transportation corridors.
Together, the approved projects represent a significant pipeline of infrastructure investments aimed at improving road connectivity, transportation efficiency and economic activity across different parts of Nigeria.
