Nigeria at 64: Time to Offload the Dead Weight
By Esosa Aihie
Nigeria celebrates its 64th anniversary, reminding us of the load and burden our nation carries. This is the load and burden Nigeria is carrying at 64.
We, the people of Nigeria, both within and without, now need to help Nigeria offload its excess, useless, underperforming, criminal, deluded, redundant, decaying, and moribund baggage. The time has come to shed the weight that has hindered our progress for far too long.
This baggage includes systems and institutions that have failed to deliver, criminal elements that have undermined our safety and security, and outdated mindsets that have stifled innovation and progress. We must also address our decaying infrastructure and moribund policies, which have hindered our economic growth and social development.
To move forward, we must unite and take collective action. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to reclaim Nigeria’s promise and build a better tomorrow. This requires a concerted effort to revamp our systems, strengthen our institutions, foster innovative thinking, and promote inclusivity and progress.
A brighter Nigeria is possible, but it requires us to confront the challenges that have held us back. Let us join hands to create a nation that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all. The time to act is now.
