INEC Releases Revised Timetable for 2027 General Elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. According to the revised schedule, the presidential and National Assembly elections will now be held on January 16, 2027, while the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.

The commission has also outlined key milestones leading up to the polls. Party primaries, including the resolution of disputes arising from them, will run from April 23 to May 30, 2026. Campaigns for presidential and National Assembly candidates will begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.

The INEC chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, emphasized that the commission is committed to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections. He urged political parties to strictly adhere to the timelines and warned that the commission will enforce compliance with the law .

The revised timetable is in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu. The commission has also announced that campaigns will end 24 hours before Election Day.
