Federation Cup: Bendel Insurance in Quarterfinals after 1-0 victory over Heartland FC, Feeders, Lobi Stars match to be concluded Thursday morning. Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin City, on Wednesday evening, defeated Heartland FC of Owerri 1-0 to progress to the quarter-finals stage of the 2023 Federation Cup.
This collision between Bendel Insurance and Heartland Fc was held at the Akwa City Stadium in Anambra. The former champions Heartland FC has now been knocked out three times in the federation cup challenge.
Bendel Insurance and Heartland who so far, had amazing campaigns in the NPFL and the second division, Nigeria National League (NNL), progressed to the last 16 following round of 32 wins over Abia’s Ahu Diya and Cross River’s Essien Ayi.
Thursday’s wet meeting in Awka saw the NPFL side come out tops after a 47th-minute strike by Ismael Sarki decided the game.
Following their 1-0 result, Bendel Insurance will now proceed to the quarterfinals alongside seven others, as they continue to make a historic match for their first cup title in 43 years.
Meanwhile, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, NPFL side Sunshine Stars overcame NNL club side EFCC FC in a thrilling 3-2 game to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Bendel Insurance has proven itself to be one of the teams to watch as they dominate their opponents on their way to the top.
