On this International Women’s Day, we shine a spotlight on the remarkable Nigerian women breaking barriers and shaping industries. From finance and governance to media, law, and technology, these women exemplify leadership, innovation, and resilience.

As we celebrate this year’s theme “Accelerate Action” we remember outstanding women who continue to inspire the next generation.

Trailblazing Nigerian Women and Their Achievements

Owen Omogiafo (OON) – The first and youngest female President and CEO of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp), driving growth in power, energy, and hospitality sectors. Recognized as Outstanding African CEO of the Year, she is redefining leadership in corporate Nigeria.

Arunma Oteh (AEEM) – Former Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank, she is a champion for gender inclusion in finance. As the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria, she played a pivotal role in stabilizing the Nigerian capital market.

Funke Opeke – A leader in telecommunications, she founded MainOne, revolutionizing broadband infrastructure across Africa and driving digital transformation.

Dr. Jumoke Oduwole – A legal expert and policy advocate instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s Ease of Doing Business reforms, ensuring economic growth and business-friendly policies.

Adesuwa Onyenokwe – A veteran journalist and media personality, she empowers women through platforms like Today’s Woman magazine, giving a voice to women’s issues.

Late Dr. Dora Akunyili (OFR) – A legacy of excellence, she led NAFDAC in the fight against counterfeit drugs, protecting millions of Nigerians through her fearless leadership.
