A REMARKABLE COMEBACK STORY

Donald Trump has been elected the 47th President of the United States of America. Trump survived two assassination attempts, criminal convictions, and even a change of political opponents to clinch the coveted presidential office.

Questions abound: what changed? Four years ago, he lost the election to Joe Biden and was disgraced by the January 6 Capitol Building insurrection. Many thought that was the end of the Trump story. The 78-year-old Trump would show the world resilience, courage, and determination.

On July 13, an assassin attempted to terminate Donald at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A split-second tilt of the head to look at a chart showing immigration figures spared his life.

The emerging pictures with blood stains helped shape public opinion and projected him as the fighter he has always talked about, giving an amazing boost to his campaign efforts.

Joe Biden dropped out of the race on July 20, adding real energy to the Trump campaign. Kamala Harris, his Deputy, was brought in to deal with a national election in less than 100 days. She was faced with an identity crisis, trying to create her own political identity while also protecting Biden’s legacy, which was seriously questioned, especially in areas of inflation and commanding international respect.

Some Factors that Made This Comeback Possible

  1. Loyal Support Base: Donald Trump has a support base independent of the Republican Party. Demographics show that many young middle-class people prefer Trump because of his rhetoric about protecting American workers and jobs. These young people want to be sure their jobs are secured and safe. They are loyal and committed to his movement and may support him even if he were an independent candidate.
  2. Strong Economic Messaging: Donald Trump was very consistent in his messaging on economics. Many undecided voters were drawn by his message of economic prosperity and reform. Many see him as a successful businessman, making it easier for him to sell that narrative. He talked about his ability to fight inflation, which resonated with many Americans, and to bring down the cost of everyday household goods.

  1. Immigration and Border Security: Trump was vocal about halting undocumented immigration to the United States, offering safety and peace for American citizens. This message was well received, especially by the states on the border, like Texas, and it was reflected in the voting pattern.

For now, we wish a Trump presidency the very best. Next, we will look at what a Trump presidency means for Africa.
