Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency over Nigeria’s escalating security challenges.
Atiku made the appeal in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, following the abduction of students in Niger State. The incident involved terrorists attacking St. Mary Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, where more than 50 students and staff were reportedly kidnapped.
He expressed deep concern over the government’s perceived slow response to rising insecurity, questioning why decisive action has not yet been taken. Describing the situation as “heartbreaking,” the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said too many lives have already been affected.
Atiku stressed that there is still time for the government to act boldly, insisting that a state of emergency remains necessary to confront the security crisis with the urgency it demands.
