Russell Brand, 51, has been found guilty by a jury at Southwark Crown Court of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. 0902
The verdicts were delivered on Thursday, 5 November 2026, after a trial lasting almost four weeks. The jury of eight men and four women deliberated for around eight and a half hours.
Brand was convicted of raping a 21-year-old fan he met after one of his shows at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2009. He was also convicted of sexually assaulting three other women: groping an MTV worker at a Soho bar in 2004, kissing and groping a Capital Radio worker in a corridor in 2005, and sexually assaulting a Channel 4 worker during a forced massage in 2009.
He was acquitted of two other counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault.
Brand had denied all seven charges, which related to six women and incidents between 1999 and 2009. Prosecutors described him during the trial as having used his influence, status and fame to exploit women.
Judge Joel Bennathan remanded Brand in custody and told him he faced a lengthy prison sentence, with sentencing set for Monday, 9 November. In England and Wales, rape carries a maximum of life imprisonment, with sentencing guidelines listing a range of four to 19 years in custody, while sexual assault carries up to 10 years.
