On Tuesday, millions of Americans queued, voted and waited. By Wednesday morning, the message was hard to miss: Democrats were surging. The AP tally showed Democrats ahead in both chambers, and outlets projected the House flipping their way.
For a president whose party held narrow majorities in both chambers, the midterms are a referendum, and voters delivered their verdict at the ballot box. Congratulations to the Democrats on a strong night. Commiserations to the Republicans, who now face a Congress that could look very different.
Republicans will say midterms usually punish the party in the White House, and that Democrats’ wins reflect that history more than a mandate.
That’s a fair point, and the final counts will tell us how big the shift really is.
Here at home, Nigerians have a lot to take from this. Americans disagreed loudly and bitterly, then settled it with ballots. Whoever wins, the result was decided by voters, and the loser accepted it. Democracy doesn’t mean everyone agrees. It means the people get the final say, and everyone abides by it.
Democracy talked loud and clear🇺🇸
