TINUBU SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

The inauguration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the president of Nigeria marks the commencement of former Senator, Governor  of Lagos State and Tinubu”s term as president and Kashim Shettima’s term as vice president.

Mr Tinubu will inherit a myriad  of challenges left behind by the ineffective retired General Buhari. After eight years as president,  the former General  turned politicians  is leaving several issues for Mr Tinubu.  Ranging from crumbling economy, widespread insecurity, high inflation, corruption, currency shortages, high unemployment, and mass exodus of young people (Japa), divided along ethnic and religious lines

Ending the fuel subsidy, this challenge has been pushed  aside by successive governments since its introduction in the 1970s.

With three unproductive refineries, Nigeria is unable to refine enough crude to meet local demands so it imports petroleum products, which are then sold at a government-set price. This has led to massive corruption of subsidy. Two major opposition parties,  PDP and  Labour Party are challenging the election results before the presidential electoral tribunal, who have 180 days to conclude the case.

An appeal before the Supreme Court has an additional 60 days to make a pronouncement if any of the parties proceed to the Supreme Court.
