Supreme Court Hears Final Arguments in Kogi, Bayelsa Governorship Election Disputes
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has begun its final hearing on the electoral disputes surrounding the 2023 governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States. The court is expected to deliver its verdict on the challenges filed by Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) against the declarations made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governors Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Usman Ododo of Kogi State, who were declared winners of the elections, are facing challenges to their victories. Despite the Governorship Election Petition Tribunals and the Court of Appeal affirming INEC’s declarations, the Supreme Court’s decision will be final.
The hearing is ongoing, and details will be provided soon.
