PDP Announces Sandy Onor as Consensus Presidential Candidate for 2027 Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, has announced former Cross River State governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The decision was announced during the collation and presentation of the party’s presidential primary results held at Wadata Plaza in Abuja.

The Chairman of the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, disclosed that the process followed extensive consultations among stakeholders, culminating in a voice vote across party structures in the states.

Party officials described the exercise as part of efforts to foster unity within the PDP and position it as a strong contender ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Sandy Onor expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him. He called on Nigerians to rally behind the PDP, stating that the party remains committed to addressing the country’s pressing economic and security challenges.

He further pledged to run an issue-based campaign anchored on integrity, competence, and national unity, expressing optimism that the PDP would reclaim power in the next general election.

However, political observers note that while the emergence of a consensus candidate may reduce internal party conflict, the PDP still faces significant challenges in rebuilding national trust and consolidating its support base ahead of 2027.

Senator Onor’s emergence now sets the stage for intensified political activities as parties position themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive presidential race.
