Nigeria Wins at 2024 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad

Nigeria has made a remarkable performance at the 2024 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) in Johannesburg, South Africa, winning two silver medals. Elvis Chiedozie Ekwelem from Rivers State and Oghenerukevwe Patrick Esemitodje from Lagos State brought home the medals, showcasing Nigeria’s intellectual prowess in mathematics.

The annual continental competition drew talented young students from over 20 African countries, with eight others participating virtually. Prof Zeblon Vilakazi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Witwatersrand, commended the Nigerian students for their exceptional dedication, talent, and in-depth knowledge of mathematics.

The Nigerian students’ outstanding performance demonstrates their commitment to excelling in mathematics at the continental level, making them bright candidates for future development in the field. This achievement highlights Nigeria’s potential in producing world-class mathematicians and scholars.
