Michael Palin ventures into Nigeria, also known as the ‘Giant of Africa,’ in a captivating three-part series on Channel 5. Embarking on a 1300-mile journey, he navigates from the bustling streets of Lagos to the lush tropical landscapes of the south.

“I wanted to challenge myself physically at 80, and it turned out to be mentally invigorating as well. Exploring a new terrain offers insights into the true essence of a country,” shares Michael. “With a population nearing 220 million, Nigeria holds the title of the most prosperous nation in Africa. Yet, amidst its burgeoning influence, a staggering 60 percent of its inhabitants grapple with poverty.”

In this compelling series, Michael delves deep into the heart of Nigeria, unraveling its complexities and shedding light on its vibrant culture and pressing societal issues.

Catch the premiere of “Michael Palin in Nigeria” on Channel 5, debuting on Tuesday, April 16 at 9 pm. Episodes will air weekly at the same time and will also be available for streaming on My5.

In Episode 1 of Michael Palin’s journey through Nigeria, he dives headfirst into the vibrant chaos of Lagos, exploring both the sprawling slum of Makoko and the upscale bars of Lekki. Later, he braves a 500-mile journey to the north, where he encounters heightened security due to the presence of the Boko Haram terrorist group. Despite the risks, Palin is honored with an invitation to meet the esteemed Emir of Kano at his majestic palace.
