Lagos to Host 96-Hour DJ Marathon Festival for Detty December

Lagos State is preparing to stage a 96-hour DJ Marathon World Festival as part of activities marking the upcoming Detty December celebrations, according to the organisers.

Media personality and event coordinator, Buchi Henry, stated in a message to journalists that arrangements are underway to feature at least 100 DJs performing continuously over four days, from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026.

Henry explained that the concept was inspired by the global attention Lagos continues to attract during the holiday season, noting that visitors from parts of Europe had shown interest in experiencing the city’s nightlife.

He said many people in the diaspora were eager to witness Lagos’ vibrant party culture, prompting the team to create an event that reflects the city’s reputation for nonstop entertainment. He also noted that a DJ-focused festival aligns well with Lagos’ identity, describing DJs as central to parties across the city.

The organisers intend to set a world record with the marathon event. Henry disclosed that the team reviewed previous attempts, including those by Nigerian DJs Obi and Bella, before settling on a 96-hour goal to showcase Lagos as a global party destination.

The festival is scheduled to coincide with New Year celebrations to enhance international appeal. The programme will run from the evening of December 29 until January 2, covering the New Year crossover period which the organisers believe will further boost interest.

Three beach venues are expected to host the event — Wave Beach, Kyma Beach and Athena Beach — with a combination of free and ticketed activities. Beyond entertainment, the organisers say the festival will incorporate elements of food, fashion, health and fitness, including yoga, Zumba and other themed sessions.

Henry acknowledged that managing logistics for the event is challenging, but said the aim is to deliver what could become the largest party festival in Africa. He added that the festival would be streamed to viewers in at least 100 countries as part of efforts to promote Nigeria and Africa positively on a global stage.

Veteran DJs including DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Neptune, DJ Humility and DJ Bombastic are expected to feature, alongside upcoming and female DJs. Henry noted that more than half of the performance slots would be allocated to emerging talents, and confirmed that Masked Queen Bella, noted for holding a marathon DJ record, would also perform.
