Kaduna State Imposes 24-Hour Curfew as Protests Turn Violent

Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, addressed the public on Monday with a crucial announcement.

Following a comprehensive review of the security situation in Kaduna State, the Kaduna State Security Council, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, identified a troubling development: the ongoing protests in the region have been overtaken by criminal elements.

These elements have escalated the situation from peaceful demonstrations to rampant looting and the destruction of both private and public properties.

The review revealed compelling evidence that criminal groups are exploiting the protests to further their agendas, causing significant harm and disruption. In light of these findings, the Kaduna State Security Council made a unanimous decision to impose a 24-hour curfew on the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria, including their surrounding environments. This curfew takes immediate effect.

Commissioner Aruwan’s statement stressed the need for citizens to remain indoors to ensure their safety while security forces work diligently to restore order and maintain security. “We urge everyone to stay home and comply with the curfew. Your cooperation is essential in helping us bring the situation under control and prevent further harm,” Aruwan stated.

He assured the public that the security forces are committed to maintaining peace and will continue to monitor the situation closely. The council will regularly review the curfew based on the evolving circumstances and lift it as soon as it is safe to do so.

This move by the state government underscores their commitment to protecting the lives and properties of the residents. It also highlights the serious approach the administration is taking towards addressing the security challenges posed by the hijacked protests. The authorities are working around the clock to ensure that normalcy returns to the affected areas as swiftly as possible.

In these trying times, the government’s decisive action aims to safeguard the community and prevent further escalation of violence. The public’s support and adherence to the curfew will be crucial in restoring peace and stability in Kaduna and Zaria.
