GoMed Nigeria, UNFPA, Lagos Government Launch Digital Health Platform for UNILAG Students

A Nigerian HealthTech company, GoMed Nigeria, has launched a digital self-care platform designed to improve university students’ access to reliable sexual and reproductive health information and professional healthcare services.

The initiative, launched in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Lagos State Government, is initially being implemented at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The platform is designed to bring trusted healthcare support closer to students while addressing common barriers such as cost, stigma, limited access to reliable information and concerns about confidentiality.

Confidential Healthcare Support at Students’ Fingertips

Through the platform, eligible students can access sexual and reproductive health products supplied by the Lagos State Ministry of Health and UNFPA, with discreet delivery available around the university campus and student accommodation.

Beyond product delivery, students can also access UNFPA’s SoftLife 247 and U-Plan platforms, which connect users with qualified family planning providers and provide reliable reproductive health information.

Registered pharmacists from GoMed Nigeria are also available to provide confidential consultations, bringing together digital healthcare access, professional guidance and last-mile delivery in one system.

Supporting Informed Health Decisions

According to Anthony Edeki, CEO of GoMed Nigeria, the initiative is aimed at bringing trusted healthcare support closer to students while protecting their privacy.

Muriel Mafico, UNFPA Resident Representative in Nigeria, also emphasized the importance of ensuring young people have access to reliable information and services that enable them to make informed health decisions.

The initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to expand youth-friendly healthcare services and address challenges affecting young people, including unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.

By improving access to appropriate information and professional healthcare services, the partners hope to reduce health-related disruptions to students’ education.

Starting at UNILAG, With Potential for Wider Expansion

The University of Lagos rollout represents the first phase of the initiative. GoMed Nigeria, UNFPA and their partners are expected to use insights from the programme to refine the model.

The platform could eventually be expanded to other university communities across Lagos State and other parts of Nigeria, combining public-sector healthcare programmes with private-sector technology and delivery infrastructure.

The initiative represents another step toward making healthcare information and professional support more accessible to young people through digital technology, while placing privacy, convenience and informed decision-making at the centre of the experience.
