From Beats to Eats: My Journey Through Nutrition, Transformation and a Cookbook

Hello, my name is Shina, and I used to be the guy who lived off quick fixes and takeout—until I decided to take control of my health, body, and confidence through food. My transformation wasn’t just about what I ate, but how I thought about food: not as punishment, but as fuel. That mindset shift led me on a journey I never expected—into the kitchen.

Over-processed foods are what I call silent killers. They’re stripped of nutrients and loaded with additives, refined sugars, unhealthy fats, and excessive salt. The scary part is how easily they sneak into our daily lives—convenient, addictive, and disguised as food. Over time, they contribute to serious health problems like obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even depression. I realised that many people, especially in communities with limited access to fresh ingredients, are trapped in a cycle where these foods dominate their diets. That’s why I created my book. I wanted to offer an alternative—simple, flavourful recipes made with real ingredients that nourish the body without sacrificing taste. It’s my way of helping people take back control of their health, one plate at a time.

When I started working on my nutrition, I was tired of meals that felt like sacrifices. So, I began creating dishes that were high in protein, low in carbs, and full of flavour—meals that helped me build lean muscle, lose fat, and still enjoy every bite. I went from inconsistent eating and low energy to a more structured, satisfying routine that gave me results I could see and feel.

That journey led me to write my book, I Am Not a Chef: A Journey from Beats to Eats—a collection of recipes and reflections for anyone who wants to eat well without feeling like they’re on a diet. The book features protein-packed meals, healthy sides, and homemade sauces, along with personal insights, photos, and even grocery shopping tips to help readers stay on track.

I’m excited to officially launch the book this year, with both an ebook and physical copies available. There will also be a live launch event with food tastings straight from the book!
