Edo Governorship Election: Live Updates
Today, September 21, 2024, marks the highly anticipated Edo State governorship election. The people of Edo will decide who succeeds Governor Godwin Obaseki. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 2.249 million voters have collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), out of 2,629,025 registered voters [1).
Voter Distribution
The voters are spread across:
- 18 local government areas
- 192 wards
- 4,519 polling units
with Edo South having 1,526,699 registered voters, Edo North having 673,794, and Edo Central having 440,514.
The Contenders
17 men and one woman are vying for the top spot. The election has shaped up to be a three-horse race between:
- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP): Dr. Asue Ighodalo
- All Progressives Congress (APC): Senator Monday Okpebholo (both from Edo Central)
- Labour Party (LP): Mr. Olumide Akpata (Edo South)
