Corruption in Nigeria Air Project Exposed by Festus Keyamo

The Nigeria Air project, which has been presented as a flagship project of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, has come under fire following the Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo`s allegations of corruption. The minister has disclosed evidence of a disgraceful deal which was signed by his predecessor, Hadi Sirika for the Nigeria Air project belonging to a foreigner instead of the Nigerian people.

This bombshell has caused outrage in the country, everyone was surprised that such could be done without the consideration of what is beneficial to the nation and the citizens. He stated that the whole Nigeria Air project was never Nigerian – just an Ethiopian airline that was rented out and painted with Nigerian livery. 60% of the profit is purportedly dictated to go to the foreign entity and, 40% to Nigeria.

This raises questions regarding the shrouded dealings that the agreement embodies. Keyamo’s expose has come at the right time when there is a citizenry clamoring for good governance and especially the issue of holding those in power accountable. “It’s disheartening to know that some people in leadership prefer to make profits rather than serve their countries.” Said Keyamo.

The Nigeria Air project is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Such a move is encouraging as it seeks to traverse the truth and ensure that justice is served to the right people.

The Nigeria Air saga is one which is of national concern to the level where it epitomes the issues of good governance. It demonstrates the need for more transparency and accountability in leadership. Resources utilization by the leaders for the citizens is a right, hence the citizens must get answers as to if these leaders are fighting for them.

The Nigeria Air scandal serves as a wake-up call for Nigerians to demand more from their leaders.
