Barcelona Forward Asisat Oshoala Completes High-Profile Move to the United States

Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala has made a significant leap to the United States, embarking on a new chapter in her career as she undergoes thorough medical examinations and finalizes her contract with a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team.

During her remarkable five-year stint with Barcelona, spanning from February 2019 to January 2024, Oshoala left an indelible mark, showcasing her prowess by notching an impressive 107 goals in 149 appearances.

Following intense speculation over the weekend, FC Barcelona has greenlit the transfer of the Nigerian striker to the NWSL club, with reports indicating a transfer fee of approximately €150,000 ($162,000 USD) as her current contract nears its expiration in June.

Amidst this pivotal transition, the 29-year-old bid farewell to Barcelona earlier this week and has now touched down at the Bay FC base in San Jose, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her illustrious career.

It has been revealed that Oshoala is poised to be officially unveiled this week, solidifying her presence in the NWSL. Sources suggest that she is on track to sign a contract running through 2026, with an option for 2027.

With her medical evaluations and contract formalities in progress, the reigning African Player of the Year is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to join forces with her new teammate, Deyna Castellanos, who recently made the switch from Manchester City to bolster the NWSL team.
