At an age when many teenagers are still trying to figure out what they want to become, 16-year-old Nigerian student Belusochim Ugochukwu is already working on some of the technologies shaping the future.
Ugochukwu is currently a machine learning engineering intern at Apple, where he is involved in computer vision and robotics research. His achievement is remarkable not only because of his age, but also because of the journey that brought him there.

In May 2026, Ugochukwu joined Apple’s Environment & Supply Chain Innovation organisation as a machine learning engineering intern, where his work focuses on computer vision and robotics research.
Apple is one of the world’s most recognised technology companies, and opportunities to work within its research and engineering ecosystem are highly sought after. For a 16-year-old Nigerian student to find himself contributing in such an environment is an achievement worth celebrating.
But perhaps the most significant part of Ugochukwu’s story is what it says about the potential of young Africans.
