In a candid reflection, the son of the late founder of Ajayi Memorial Hospital, one of Nigeria’s pioneering private hospitals, shares the lessons he learned from his father’s legacy and how they have shaped his own entrepreneurial journey.
The younger entrepreneur recounts how his father’s unwavering dedication to his work and patients inspired him to build institutions that would outlast him. After witnessing the decline of Ajayi Memorial Hospital following his father’s passing, he became determined to create organisations with robust systems, governance structures, and values that would endure beyond his own lifetime.
During his time at King’s College in London, he grasped the importance of excellence as a habit, which further fueled his ambition to build lasting institutions. When he co-founded Bridge Clinic and PathCare (now SYNLAB), he drew inspiration from his father’s values, prioritising the creation of strong foundations that would protect their mission and values long after he’s gone.
Now, as a father himself, he is driven by a desire to leave a lasting impact that will benefit future generations. He emphasises the importance of building resilience and strong foundations, noting that these qualities are not inherited but rather learned through experience and perseverance.
Through his story, he pays tribute to his father’s legacy, highlighting the enduring power of service, dedication, and values-driven leadership.
