Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. According to sources, Atiku’s resignation stems from his disagreement with the party’s current direction, which he believes has deviated from its core principles.
In a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman, Atiku expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he had whilst serving in the party but stated that he could no longer continue due to irreconcilable differences.
Atiku’s departure from the PDP comes amid speculation about his potential plans for the 2027 general elections. Insiders suggest he may be exploring options with other parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
This marks Atiku’s third departure from the PDP, with previous exits occurring in 2007 and during the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His next steps remain uncertain.
