NDC UNVEILS 118-MEMBER CAMPAIGN COUNCIL, INAUGURATES NEW ABUJA HEADQUARTERS

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its 118-member National Campaign Council as part of efforts to strengthen its political organisation and prepare for the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made during the party’s third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday, October 26, 2026, alongside the commissioning of its newly acquired national headquarters in Jabi and the inauguration of its campaign council.

The party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, was named chairman of the council, while its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will serve as co-chairman. The National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, was appointed vice-chairman, while the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will serve as co-vice-chairman.

According to the leadership announced by the party, Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim will serve as Director-General of the campaign council, while the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, was named council secretary. Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, will chair the National Campaign Advisory Council.

Other notable figures named to the campaign structure include former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Victor Umeh, economist Professor Pat Utomi, and politician Buba Galadima. The party also announced a 40-member National Campaign Advisory Council and 37 state campaign coordinators.

The campaign council is expected to provide strategic direction, coordinate activities across the country and mobilise support for the party’s candidates at the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly levels.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY TAKES CENTRE STAGE

The NEC meeting also featured the presentation of the party’s financial account by its National Treasurer, John Odey, detailing funds generated through the sale of nomination forms and donations.

The presentation followed the party’s earlier commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in its financial administration.

Ahead of the meeting, the NDC had said the disclosure of its financial records was intended to demonstrate openness in party management. It also highlighted the economic challenges facing aspirants, stating that some candidates who could not afford nomination forms had received them free of charge.

The financial presentation formed part of a broader agenda to review the party’s activities and demonstrate its approach to internal administration as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

NEW HEADQUARTERS, EXPANDED CAMPAIGN STRUCTURE

The commissioning of the NDC’s new national headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, marked another milestone in the party’s organisational preparations.

The headquarters is expected to serve as a central point for coordinating party activities, managing campaign operations and strengthening engagement with candidates, members and supporters across the federation.

The party also announced key appointments within its campaign communication and security structures. Its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, was named Director of Communication and Media, while retired Major General John Enenche was appointed Director of Security and Intelligence.

The combination of a national headquarters, a central campaign council and state-level coordinators provides the party with an expanded framework for organising its political activities ahead of the polls.

POSITIONING FOR THE 2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS

The developments come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with candidate mobilisation, campaign coordination and public engagement expected to shape the emerging contest.

For the NDC, the unveiling of its campaign leadership and the commissioning of its headquarters represent steps towards consolidating its national structure and coordinating its electoral strategy.

However, the effectiveness of the new structure will ultimately depend on how well the party translates its organisational arrangements into grassroots mobilisation, effective communication and sustained engagement with voters across Nigeria.

As the election approaches, attention will increasingly focus on the party’s policy proposals, its ability to build a broad support base and the extent to which its campaign leadership can present a credible alternative to Nigerians.

The NDC has expressed confidence in its preparations for the forthcoming elections, urging its members and supporters to remain united and focused on its political objectives.

With its campaign council now unveiled and its new headquarters commissioned, the party has taken another step in positioning itself for the 2027 general elections.
