We met online on 25 July 2021 for the Nigeria National Diaspora Day Investment Meeting. Chairman Nigeria Magazine, Mr Kede Aihie in his opening remark said Nigeria Magazine celebrates all things synonymous with achievement in Business, Education, Technology, Politics, Sports, Arts & Culture. Nigeria Economic Sustainability Series – are about public awareness of post COVID-19economic recovery.
The discussion during the meeting focused on investment opportunities and reforms in Edo State. On investment opportunities Mr Kelvin Uwaibi – MD EDO STATE INVESTMENT PROMOTION OFFICE (ESIPO) said Edo State government will continue to enable the business environment for Diaspora investments to thrive, provide timely information on investment opportunities in the state. Work to resolve business complaints. Partner with the Diaspora in the area of Health, Technology, Agriculture processing and manufacturing.
On Civil service, Nigeria Magazine and ESIPO welcomed the ongoing reforms. Mr Anthony Okungbowa Esq, Head of Service Edo State, reaffirmed that the Public Service is being repositioned to serve the interest of the public. and that it must be citizen-centric.
Nigeria Magazine and ESIPO welcomed the call by Acting Permanent Secretary, Edo Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Peter Aikhuomobhogbe‘s for Edo Diasporans to tap into the various agricultural initiatives available in state. It was noted that Agribusiness plays a large part in the Edo State economy, directly providing more than 54% of jobs and contributing more than 25% to the GDP.
On the Health sector, Nigeria Magazine and ESIPO noted the challenges and welcomed Dr Osamwonyi Irowa, Permanent Secretary Edo State Ministry of Health, quick wins suggestions that can be found in the primary healthcare, equipment financing, provision of power source, Telemedicine, medical diagnostic centres, electronic medical records. It was reiterated that the Health sector constitute a vital component of the Social welfare enhancement pillar of the state government.
Nigeria Magazine and ESIPO welcomed the positive development in technology sector in Edo State, noted the progress made by Edo Tech Park, launched in January 2021. The target to train 15,000 software engineers in 5 years is a welcomed development. Mrs Ukinebo Dare MD, Edo State Skills Development Agency highlighted the training of people on e-commerce, online branding etcetera. Training, certification and job placement. Edo job is for everyone, in the state regardless of age, gender.
On land registration Nigeria Magazine and ESIPO, welcomed the reforms and progress made to date. Arc Frank Evbuomwan MD EDOGIS, gave updates on developments in the land registration of private and commercial property registration system.
It was agreed that the core objectives, digital area mapping of Edo State (17, 802 Sq Km2), digitalization and computerization existing land administration procedure, should be sustained. It was also noted that the land management system, which captures, stores, analyse, share, manage and display geographical and transactional land and property data.
Protection of private property law has been revamped and armed with new razor sharp teeth. The government just signed it into being.
During the Nigeria National Diaspora Day Investment Meeting on the 25th of July 2021. Nigeria Magazine and ESIPO agreed that our collaboration and interactions with the EDO community in the Diaspora, was important. Our Shared Agenda to rally Edo sons and daughters in the Diaspora to come and benefit from the business opportunities available in Edo State.
As we do so we look forward to continue to collaborate this year and in future years as part of the government’s efforts to further strengthen the economy of the state.
