Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare re-affirmed her super star status as a medal prospect, when she eased into the semi-finals of the women’s 100m of the on going London 2012 Olympics.

Also through into Saturday's semis is another Nigerian sprinter, Gloria Asumu, who placed third in her heat.  Madison of the United States placed second behind Okagbare in 10.96 seconds, while Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago was third.

Running in Heat 3, Asumu was pipped to the third spot by Ivet Lalova of Bulgaria, who passed the Nigerian with about 10m left.

Asumu's heat was won by Beijing 200m gold medallist, Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica, who powered home in 10.94s.  Asumu clocked 11.13, for a season's best over the distance. The Bulgarian crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 10.06s.

The women's 100m semi-finals are scheduled to take at about 7.30pm on Saturday, with the final coming up at 9.55pm same day.  The heats for the preliminary rounds of the men's 100m begin at 10am on Saturday.
