Nigerian sprinter Sunday Bada is dead

One of the country's standard bearers in sports, Sunday Bada aged 42, died two days ago in
Lagos. Sunday's Bada's life as a sportsman was eventful and creditably, scandal-free.

He was there for Nigeria in African championship, world events and at the summit of
competition and participation, the Olympics, with outstanding degree of success.

Bada won his world indoor title over 400 metres in Paris in 1997, and was technical director of
the Athletics Federation of Nigeria until his death on Monday.
Bada also won an Olympic silver medal with Nigeria in the 4x400m relay at the 2000 Sydney
Olympics.

The IAAF said in a statement: "The IAAF on behalf of the global athletics family offers its
condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of Sunday Bada who will be sadly missed."

A police officer, Bada was one of the notable contributions of security forces to the Nigerian
sporting scene.
