NIGERIAN FOOTBALL LEGEND RASHIDI YEKINI IS DEAD

 

The football community was thrown into mourning last night when news broke that former
international Rashidi Yekini had passed on.
 
He died in Ibadan, though the cause of his death could not be ascertained as at the time of going
to press.
 
The late Yekini shot into the limelight in the late 80’s, when he became the top striker of the
Super Eagles under the tutelage of Dutch coach Clemence Westerhof.
 
He was a member of the Super Eagles that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nation’s in Tunisia,
where he had emerged the top goal scorer.
 
Yekini who had a stint of professional football in Portugal with Victoria Setubal scored Nigeria’s
first world cup goal at USA 94.
