Mercy wins Nigerian Idol
Nigerian Idol II, a reality TV show which connected with Nigerian youths by giving them a platform to showcase their singing talents, has come to an end.
The show, which kicked off about six months ago, had Chinwo Nnenda, better known as Mercy, emerge winner.
She beat thousands of musical talents across the country to win Nigerian music’s biggest TV show.
Mercy defeated fellow contestant, Joe Blue, at the grand finale of the show held at the Dream Studio, Lagos.
The finale kicked off with hosts, Ill Ryhmz and Tiwa Savage calling the 12 finalists on stage to render the National Anthem. This was followed by a performance from Wizkid, W4 and Chuddy K.
Judges Yinka Davies, Jeffery Daniels and Charly Boy could not but smile and later cheer Mercy and Joe Blunt, who displayed outstanding and brilliant performances all through the show.
Mercy began her round of performances with an emotionally charged version of Whitney Houston's 'I Look to You', before she put on her dancing shoes for a superbly choreographed and vocally powerful performance of Amerie's 'One Thing'. She also sang a remixed version of P-Square's "Chop My Money", zooming in on a power bike for that number.
Mercy goes home with a whooping star prize of a recording contract, an SUV Jeep and prize money of N7.5 million.
