London 2012 Olympics – Rousing Welcome for Team Nigeria in London
Members of the Nigerian Olympic team were given a rousing welcome by Nigerians and UK Diasporans on Sunday 8th July at the La Royale Banqueting Hall in North London. The event was hosted by CANUK and specialguest of honour included the Nigerian Olympic Committee, the Deputy High Commissioner of Nigeria, UK Mayors and Councillors, bureaucrats, Football Stars, Nollywood Actors and Actresses, business moguls, entrepreneurs, media houses and personalities, comedians, dancers, cultural groups, music and dance artistes, fashion designers.
Athletes included: Idara Otu, Athlete (400x400m), Joseph Obinna Metu, Athlete (100 & 200m), Uhunoma Naomi Osazuwa (Heptathlon) etc
Bolaji Abdullahi, Minister of Sports and Chair of the National Sports Commission (NSC) says Team Nigeria will be a prod contingent of Nigeria’s national flag bearers determined to put up a scintillating performance.
Engineer Sani Ndanusa, President Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) says Nigeria expects our sporting heroes will no doubt deliver.
Dr Patrick Ekeji, National Sports Commission, Team Nigeria is confident that Team Nigeria is fully prepared to compete among the best athletes from around the world.
Honourable Babatunde Popoola, Secretary General, NOC and Alhassan Yakmut told Nigeria Magazine at the event of their full confidence in the ability of Team Nigeria to strike gold at the 2012 Games.
His Excellency, the Deputy High Commissioner and other Ministers graced this occasion and reiterated the ethos of service to our fatherland as expressed in the National anthem.
CANUK Chair, Bimbo Folayan and the Executive members presented an occasion that Nigerians in attendance were proud of yesterday.
Nigerians came out in their finest and in full support of our multi-talented Olympic sport stars. In attendance were bureaucrats, community leaders, council of elders, philanthropists and politicians including four mayors and50 councillors.
