Jonathan Asks Senate To Confirm Lamorde As EFCC Boss
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday asked the Senate to confirm Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde as the substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Lamorde, who is currently the acting chairman of the EFCC, took over the running of the agency following the removal of Mrs Farida Waziri last November.
In a letter addressed to the Senate President, David Mark, and read at the floor of the Senate , the President informed the senators that: “The appointment of the Chairman of the EFCC is provided for in Section. 2 (1) (a) and (b) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act 2004.
“By virtue of Section 2(3) of the EFCC Act which confers upon the President the powers to appoint the Chairman and Members of the Commission, other than Ex-officio Members, subject to confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I hereby request the Senate to kindly consider and confirm the appointment of Mr Ibrahim Lamorde as chairman.”
